We were recently invited to submit abstracts of papers for presenting at a conference ‘What works in Behaviour Change?’ which is being organised by the Scottish Government at the end of June. Based on the results of our recent research for the ’2025′ project and the projects started by our working groups, we have submitted four abstracts about food, transport, energy and a more general one highlighting that, actually, people do already want to make many of the changes which will be required as we move to a low carbon, locally resilient future but are facing many real (and perceived) barriers to change. The major barrier however remains the perverse incentives not to change which result from our current economic system, relying as it does on continuous economic growth and unsustainable consumption.
As it happens, the organisers have now responded and only asked us to present a short session based on the food abstract but we will work some of the more general findings into this.
