Any member of Sustaining Dunbar is eligible to put themselves forward to be one of our volunteer Directors. The Board also has the option to co-opt extra directors to bring in particular skills and expertise. Board minutes are available here.

Sustaining Dunbar is a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee (registered in Scotland no. 351910, Scottish Charity no. SC040106) with membership open to anyone aged 18 or over and resident in the Dunbar and East Linton Ward. Members elect our Board at our AGM in March. Board meetings are normally held on the first Monday of every month (7.30pm in the office above the BeGreen shop) and any member is welcome to attend.
This structure enables us to employ staff and raise funds and has been set up to facilitate and support the work of our various groups and projects, many of which are led by local volunteers. It is in these groups and projects that most of the creativity, energy and activity of Sustaining Dunbar lies. Sustaining Dunbar’s aim is to enable and facilitate, make connections, encourage the free flow of relevant information and generally to do all it can to help everyone get involved in making a vibrant, creative and resilient, low-carbon locality.

Janet Barnes
Janet Barnes
Janet Barnes is a business development consultant working in the social enterprise sector. She has worked all over Scotland helping community groups to create or develop their business ideas. As well as being the chair of Sustaining Dunbar she is actively involved in Dunbar Community Bakery, Dunbar Community Kitchen and The Ridge. She lives in Dunbar.
Andrew Turner
Andrew Turner has lived in East Linton for nearly 20 years with his wife and four children. He’s always interested in making things, and is a time served joiner and qualified furniture maker. This last ten years been employed by Jewel & Esk College teaching a Furniture Crafts course, now part-time. He’s been a Sustaining Dunbar board member since 2011.
Jacquie Bell
Jacquie Bell
Jacquie has been connected with Sustaining Dunbar since its earliest days. She is also involved with the Community Bakery, Friends of Winterfield and the Community Woodland Group. Jacquie was an East Lothian Councillor from 2007-2012 and is currently the Vice-Chair of Dunbar Community Council.

Rodrigo Barnes
Rodrigo Barnes
Rodrigo has lived in Dunbar with his family for over 12 years. He got involved in Sustaining Dunbar to improve our community’s ability to have a sustainable local economy by meeting the challenges of rising energy costs and climate change. He’s a software engineer and currently works for a health informatics company in Edinburgh.
Hannah Grindley
Hannah has recently moved back to Dunbar to live by the sea. Hannah works in Edinburgh in the legal field and has a particular interest in Environmental Law.
