Usually our Pledgehog Project aims to inspire you to make changes to your outdoor space to make it more hedgehog friendly. However, with it being the start of a new year they would like to highlight some other ways that you could support the running of the project throughout 2025.
Jen Walker, Pledgehog Officer, says: “I’m very aware that we can become bombarded with requests to give to charities, so these following suggestions try to keep this in mind. Ideally, the project would be run with donations solely from funders but this can be difficult to source continuously and there are always extra expenses that crop up throughout the year which haven’t been budgeted for”.
The Pledgehog Project is extremely grateful for being funded so far this year by The Hugh Fraser Foundation from January until the end of March.
Jen continues: “If you’d like to be in with the chance of winning money yourself then you can support the Pledgehog Project by entering the East Lothian Community Lottery, or if you shop at the Co-operative then this year you can choose our project as your local cause with Co-operative membership. Another simple way would be to nominate us each month for the Movement for Good Award. The more support we get the more that can be done to make Dunbar a better place for these threatened creatures”.
East Lothian Lottery: the tickets are £1 each and you then have a 1 in 50 chance to win a prize each week. With a top prize of £25,000 you have a better chance of winning the jackpot than the National Lottery or the Health Lottery. For each £1 donated, 50p will go to your chosen good cause and 10p to other good causes in East Lothian. There are also regular Super Draws which are fantastic bonus prizes, in addition to the regular cash prizes. Here is the current one below.
Jacqui Fereday (pictured below) lives on the Isle of Mull and regularly supports The Pledgehog Project by entering the East Lothian Lottery and last year won £250.
If you do wish to just give a good old fashioned donation then you can do this by clicking here. Just include that it’s to go towards the Pledgehog Project.
Jen concludes “Thank you for reading if you’ve got this far and I’d like to wish all our supporters and everyone who has been involved in this project a very happy new year. Here’s to many more hedgehog sightings in 2025!”.
