A young male hedgehog was found sitting around in the daytime at Winterfield Park entrance in Dunbar on 23rd April. He was extremely poorly and luckily was rescued and taken to Burntisland Hedgehog Haven who have done an amazing job at getting him better 🥰

Well the great news is he was finally released back to Winterfield Park in Dunbar. This is the videos of him being released. He did wander into the hedgehog house under the log pile then seemed happy snuffling around the house and logs. So finally a success story of a hedgehog being rescued, recovering and being released here again-yay! A huge thank you to Burntisland Hedgehog Haven for all their hard work! Also to the people who found him and sought help, as well as several different volunteers who drove him back and forth. 🥰🦔🥰
Please, if you see a hedgehog out during the daytime in East Lothian (early mornings evenings are usually ok) then don’t delay and get advice as soon as you can from Burntisland Hedgehog Haven on 07577000328. The Pledgehog Project or Dunbar Hedgehog Group aren’t available 24/7 and can take a while to get back to you so it’s best to contact the hedgehog welfare/rehabilitation experts directly. It can be a good idea to take a video as it helps to show them but if it does look obviously unwell then please follow the advice by clicking here.

It involves being part of a Whats App group and you only need to reply if you can do it, with no pressure. The more volunteer drivers there are throughout the Lothians that are messaged then the easier it should be to find someone available to transport the hedgehogs. Hopefully this will also mean people only need to drive part of the way and link up with other drivers. It really will make a difference to hedgehogs needing rescued and we can have more success stories like Ben’s.
