Jacquie Bell

Who?

I am Jacquie Bell. I am a retired social worker. I am married to Simon who is a Professor of Landscape Architecture between Edinburgh university and University of Life Sciences in Tartu, Estonia. I have one son who lives with his wife in Yorkshire.

We have lived in Dunbar since 1989. We also have a house in rural Latvia.

I am involved in a number of community groups. I have been a community councillor since 2000 (apart from my time on ELC) and I currently chair Dunbar and East Linton Area Partnership.

When?

I have been involved with Sustaining Dunbar and its projects since the beginning when I was an ELC Councillor. I have been a Trustee since 2012.

Why?

I have a longstanding interest in environmental issues and since moving to Dunbar have had a particular interest in the message of John Muir both locally and to the wider world. I am a past Trustee of the Birthplace Trust and am a member of Friends of John Muirs Birthplace. I believe there is a connectivity between the aims of SD and those of Muir. I have particular interests in sustainability, the links between landscape and health and wellbeing, transport and the impacts of the planning system on environment and habitat.

What?

I would like to see Sustaining Dunbar continue to play an active role in the community – as an initiator of projects promoting environment and sustainability and working in collaboration with other community groups to build a better, more sustainable future for our community and beyond.
