It’s that time of year when I like to look back and think about how well the past year has gone. We realise that none of our Pledgehog Project could have happened without our supporters and funders to which we are extremely grateful!
So today’s blog is to celebrate the continued support there is to help hedgehogs in Dunbar and connect our communities with the love of these spiky creatures.

We started the year with funding of £1000 from Hugh Fraser Foundation then secured £500 from Viridor. The Pledgehog Project was also chosen as one of the Co-operative’s Local Causes throughout 2025 and received an amazing £2060. Thanks to everyone who chose us as their local cause!

A lovely fundraising activity was held at Spott Village Hall-a plant based meal which donated the profits to the Pledgehog Project. A big thank you to David Sommerville for organising this and to those who came along. £173.60 was raised.

Dunbar Craft Studio continue to sell beautiful hedgehog lino prints made by talented local artist Pennie Jo Art which raised £59.08 this year.

It’s the 3rd year that we have been funded by East Lothian Community Lottery which is a wonderful help in buying resources throughout the year like hedgehog food, water stations and other items to help run out awareness raising events. Currently we raise around £20 a month this way. We would love to increase the amount of people who play the lottery and support us in this way. We were able to buy solar panels to run our 8 night time trail cameras this year as well as security boxes and cables for them all, thanks to a grant of £929 from CWP Energy /Be Green Dunbar.
Finally, there are also generous individuals that donate throughout the year at our events or on our Sustaining Dunbar website. It all adds up, so it’s much appreciated!
The good news is the funding from the Co-operative will keep the project going during the start of 2026 but we are needing to find more for the rest of the year. If anyone knows of any other funding opportunities then please get in touch by emailing jen@sustainingdunbar.org or if you would be kind enough to support us then perhaps you could play the East Lothian Lottery or donate here (please state it’s for the Pledgehog Project when doing so).
Finally, we are very grateful for the support from East Lothian Climate Hub who are helping to promote the project throughout East Lothian as a biodiversity case study. They produced this video to help to explain what the Pledgehog Project is and are hoping it inspires others in the region to help hedgehogs too!
