As a charity we depend on our board of volunteer trustees to oversee and guide our activities. If you have an interest in joining the board and supporting our work in this way then please get in touch to discuss: board@sustainingdunbar.org
*We are considering introducing a small, annual membership fee as per this proposal:
Background:
We currently have 595 newsletter subscribers of whom around 350 regularly open and engage with the newsletter. Of the 428 for whom we have postcodes, they are distributed across the ward: 275 in Dunbar, 85 in East Linton, 43 in East Lammermuir and 25 in West Barns. See map.
Issues:
- We need to generate income to cover our basic, ongoing core costs, particularly insurance and accountancy fees. Currently we rely on top-slicing of project grants to cover these costs but grants are few and far between.
- We currently have no way of ensuring that our membership data is up to date. Very few people click on the newsletter link to update their membership details so we don’t have an accurate record of how many of our newsletter subscribers actually qualify as ‘Ordinary Members’ (full members with voting rights) and we don’t know how many have moved address or left the area.
- We don’t have as much interaction as we would like with most of our members and don’t know much about their interests or concerns or ways in which they may like to become more involved with our current activities or to start new projects.
Proposal:
That we introduce a nominal annual membership fee (suggested £10) for Ordinary Members (with an invitation to donate according to means). Those who choose not to take up membership will remain subscribed to the newsletter but will be classed as Associate Members as per our new Articles. Ordinary Members may wish to be included in a members’ directory to make it easier to link up with others with similar interests.
