Loves Local

Just before Christmas we were excited to be informed that Sustaining Dunbar has been awarded  £18,000 from the Scotland Loves Local Fund administered through the Scotland’s Towns Partnership. This initiative is about encouraging people to ‘think, choose and love local’. This aim has  a close fit with our own aim of enabling our people, community and environment to thrive.

Our project will focus a programme of action research to investigate the potential for;

  •         more partnership working with food growers to increase the yield of locally grown, organic food for local consumption
  •         the development of new micro food growing and processing enterprises that will make more of seasonal harvests and help to create jobs
  •         setting up a local apprentice scheme to offer varied horticultural opportunities across projects in the Dunbar area, and to promote the development of organic growing and rural skills

The project  will target local food outlets – retail and hospitality, growers across a range of scales and settings – allotments, private and community gardens, potential market gardens and the Local Good Food Alliance.

This is a most exciting opportunity to explore and develop ideas and activities, and to demonstrate our approach to community development. More news shortly.
