Give a hog a home

The Dunbar Community Shed are now taking orders for producing hedgehog houses made right on your doorstep. These houses were designed in partnership with Sustaining Dunbar’s Pledgehog Project and are made in a more environmentally friendly way by using recycled heat treated pallets and painted on the outside with eco friendly non toxic wood preservative.

Jen, our Pledgehog Project Officer says “These houses are ideal to put in your garden to encourage hedgehogs to take up residence and either use as a daytime shelter, a winter hibernation nest or even for a mum to rear her hoglets. Even if you don’t know if you have a hedgehog visiting your garden, if you have access (a gap of at least 13 cm x 13 cms) then please consider putting one in your garden to provide a much needed safe place for them to live”.

Jen continues, “Hedgehogs travel around a mile each night so I believe it’s only a matter of time before one ventures into your garden. The ideal place to site one is in a quiet, undisturbed area that’s in the shade all year round. That could be behind a shed or building or at the back of a border that has evergreen trees or shrubs covering it”.

Please contact the Dunbar Community Shed by email: info@dunbarshed.org.uk to order one. Cost per hedgehog house is £35.
