A Proud Day for Dunbar Day Centre Buddies!
Volunteer Centre East Lothian hosted a wonderful celebration of volunteering, and little did we know that all the teams and individuals who made the shortlist were winners!
Our young volunteers had a fantastic afternoon hearing about the incredible work being carried out across East Lothian. It would have been impossible to single out just one winner. Everyone recognised on the day had made an amazing contribution to their community.
The afternoon began with a sublime afternoon tea along with entertainment from some very talented Scottish country dancers. The volunteers also got the opportunity to meet their local MSP and the Provost of East Lothian, both of whom congratulated the young volunteers on their dedication and commitment.
The girls representing Dunbar Day Centre Buddies truly shone on the day, just take a look at the photos! I couldn’t be prouder of them. Although the whole team couldn’t attend, this recognition belongs to every one of our young volunteers. They were absolutely delighted to receive their trophy and are already looking forward to taking it back to Dunbar Day Centre to share the good news with the rest of the team and show it off to their older friends, whose support and encouragement mean so much to them.

Coordinated through Sustaining Dunbar, the Dunbar Day Centre Buddies project brings together young people from Dunbar Grammar School and older members of our community through weekly volunteering at Dunbar Day Centre. Giving up their time after school and during holidays, the volunteers help serve lunches, make tea, support activities and, most importantly, build genuine friendships with the Day Centre members. Through chatting, singing, quizzes, music and plenty of laughter, they bring energy and companionship to the centre while creating meaningful connections across the generations.
Congratulations to: Juliet Shevlin, Eva McCandish, Caitlin Stalker, Makayla Blyth, Ava Greig, Ellie Washington, Annielise Dean.
A huge thank you must also go to Dunbar Grammar School and Dunbar Day Centre, whose ongoing support, encouragement and partnership make this project possible. Most of all, thank you to our young volunteers. Your kindness, commitment, enthusiasm and community spirit make a real difference every week. You bring friendship, fun and companionship to the older people you support, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything you have achieved.
